Beschreibung
The History of Kings County, Nova Scotia; Heart of the Acadian Land, giving a sketch of the French and their expulsion; and a History of the New England Planters who came in their stead, with many genealogies 1604 1910; by Arthur Wentworth Hamilton Eaton, M. A., D. C. L., priest of the diocese of New York; Corresponding member of the Nova Scotia Historical Society; Honorary member of the New Brunswick Historical Society; Life member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society; Member of the Boston Authors Club; The Salem Press Company, Salem, Mass., 1910. The author, Protestant Episcopal clergyman, educator, scholar, aesthete, and littérateur; b. 10 Dec. 1849 in Kentville d.11 July 1937 in Boston, Mass. Arthur Wentworth Eaton (he added Hamilton later in life) was descended from New England Planters on his father s side and American loyalists on his mother s. In his early twenties he emigrated to the Boston States, where he would spend most of his career as a gentleman scholar writing about the experience of pre-loyalist and loyalist settlers in Nova Scotia. His magnum opus (this book), The History of Kings County, Nova Scotia (1910), towers above all other similar works. His contribution to the historiography of colonial Nova Scotia remains unique and unsurpassed (Barry Cahill). This massive tomb has no maps, no illustrations but is a treasure of genealogy and history of Kings County. This book, 898 pages, bound in green cloth is very sound and overall in very good condition. The covers are slightly scuffed but the interior is in near fine condition with several foxing spots affecting the initial pages. A true cornerstone work on the settlement of the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. This large and heavy book will require additional postage. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 19115d
