A scarce two volume set on Medieval history. Focusing on, in first volume, the Second to the Ninth Centuries and from the Tenth to Thirteenth Centuries in the second, the volumes here are a detailed and all encompassing view of political theories of the time, with chapters on the Roman Republic, the New Testament and individual subjects such as slavery and monarchy. Each volume contains a library bookplate to pastedown. In cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally quite smart, there is some wear to the boards and backstrip. The hinges are slightly strained to volume two. Internally, the pages are firmly bound but are lightly spotted and foxed in certain areas. The text remains clear.
