Inhaltsangabe: This work is the third in a series of books about Maryland families. The author, already known for his works on the Fry, Hines, Hurley, Lowder, Maddox, Niekirk, Pratt and Walker families, now turns his attention to the Fulks families, whose name has been variously spelled Fowke, Foulks, Foulk, Fulks, Fout, Fouck, Fouts, Foltz and Fought, among other versions. Beginning with Fowke records from the 1400s, the book is designed to be an introductory look at the descendants of the Fulks families, being primarily an account of the descendants of Baltus Fulks of Maryland (1735-1806) and Gerard Fowke of Virginia (1606-1669). Chapter subjects include a second Gerard Fowke (1662-1734), Foulke family members of Delaware, Fulks families of Maryland, the Gloyd families (who intermarried with the Fulks family), William Fulks, Ignatius Fulks (1800-1881), William Robert Fulks, Fulks families of Virginia, and Fulks of Kentucky and Tennessee. The bibliography lists about a hundred sources used in the preparation of this volume, and the everyname index lists 2,000 or more names included in the book.

Buchbeschreibung Heritage Books (1997) 2012, 1997. Soft cover. Buchzustand: New. The history of the Myricks United Methodist Church, located in Berkley, Massachusetts, is a topic not only of interest to the author, but of personal significance. Mrs. Terry's grandmother was a lifelong member of the church and "served as Church Historian for many years." It was through this relationship that she first became interested in the subject. Upon realization that there was no written history of the church, she began this work to present a source of information on the "church and community." In the process of compiling this information, she accessed a number of sources, including the church records and articles, newspaper articles, earlier books and a local historical society. The Myricks United Methodist Church was established in the middle of the 19th century, and therefore this book covers about 150 years of the church and its members. The book begins with a chapter giving a brief history of the church as it was established in Myricks. Throughout the remainder of the book, Mrs. Terry paints a well-rounded picture of its history through the examination of the various aspects and activities of which the church consists. Among the topics discussed are the physical structure, in its various stages; the membership, including complete lists from a number of years; the ministers; the worship service and the roles of individuals therein; and Bible school. Complementing the text are more than thirty-five illustrations of the church and church members and a surname index. Church histories, such as this one, provide a valuable view of the communities in which they exist and the individuals who give them life. This insightful history has been written with an understanding of the Myricks United Methodist Church, its members are and the influences that have helped shape them. Buchnummer des Verkäufers UMA038
