Zustand: Very Good
Auflage: First Edition
Quarto, original red cloth covered boards with gilt spine titles. 468pp. including extensive index and very extensive bibliography. A still unsurpassed history of the playing card and its art from its European history to its American history. Generously illustrated with line drawings and many full page vivid full color full page plates of antique, historic and collectible playing cards with pinted tissue guards in place. This is a tight, sound and very good volume. Gently ex-libary it has NO card pocket and NO circulation stickers. Bookplate on pastedown and usual moderate markings to first few pages but thereafter only a handful of nickel sized roundstamps at the lower corner of a few tissue guards, else unmarked. A bit of light ancient library dust to boards and minor rubbing to spine tops. Despite the catalogue of minor defects, an excellent and attractive copy. Very good plus. Uncommon.
