A lovely copy of John Home's study of the Jacobite uprising in 1745, in a Riviere binding. A lovely edition of a work which was first issued in 1802. Written by John Home, a Scottish minister, soldier and author. He wrote the famed play 'Douglas', which was a standard Scottish school text until the mid twentieth century. A history of the rebellion of 1745, also known as the Jacobite rising. It was an attempt by Charles Edward Stuart to regain the British throne for his father, James Francis Edward Stuart, but ended in January 1746 with the defeat at Culloden.Rebacked, in a full calf signed binding by Riviere.With the bookplate of T&M James to the front free endpaper, and a further bookplate reading 'Ne Obliviscaris' to the front pastedown.A lovely copy of this work. Rebacked, in a full calf signed binding, with original boards restored and back strip laid down. Externally, lovely. Hinges reinforced with cloth.
