Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Jacob Abbott. History of Richard the Second of England. NY: Harper & Brothers, 1899, reprint of the 1858 original edition, 347 pp. *** This volume is one title in a series of histories about major historical persons penned by Jacob Abbott or his brother John S. C. Abbott, starting in the late 1840's. The target audience was young people aged 15 to 25, but the books appealed to a much larger audience, including none other than Abraham Lincoln. At first the titles were part of the Illustrated History Series, republished several times into the early 20th century with the final name Makers of History Series. Richard II was king of England from 1377 until 1399 during the tumultuous Medieval Era. He became King at the tender age of 10. What could go wrong? Well, he was constantly fighting against wealthy, powerful men which ultimately led to his being deposed in 1399, then imprisoned where he lasted until his death in 1400. On a positive note, he was a patron of the Arts. He also became the subject of Shakespeare's historical tragedy “Richard II.” With an engraved frontis. illustration, two maps in text and one full-page map, and twenty-eight (28) engraved illustrations, both plates and in text. This book is in my inventory and the images are of this particular item. *** Yellow ochre cloth boards and spine with pictorial decoration on front cover, small decoration on spine. Covers are clean with almost no wear. Contents are complete in solid, slightly cocked binding. One plate has a 2.5 inch closed tear which has been repaired with clear archival tape (image not affected). *** 7 inches tall by 5 inches.…
