Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Early days in Wayne County, MO, are recalled in this booklet, reprinted from excerpts from three rare books: Goodspeed's 1888: History of Southeast Missouri, The State of Missouri (1904), and Missouri, a Guide to the "Show Me" State, a 1930s WPA project. The 42-page 8 1/2" x 11" booklet, is spiral bound. A vinyl sheet protects the front cover. The 1888 history covers the early development of this area and includes bios of prominent citizens. The 1904 book, written in connection with the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, gives a brief overview of the county at that date. The WPA excerpt takes a look at the area from a 1939 vantage point, including ihistorical notes, as they relate to sightseeing possibilities. Topics covered include: Physical features; Joseph Parish, Thomas Ring, the Logan family, the Bettis brothers, and other early settlers; Organization of the county and names of early officials; Early courthouses, Murder trials; Communities -- Greenville, Piedmont, and other towns; Newspapers, Lawyers and other bits of history and trivia. Besides the names mentioned in the first part of the booklet, there are biographies of many county residents of yesteryear. Shopbeschreibung

Azarrow offers reproductions of rare historical sources. Our books cover local areas usually a single county, making them an excellent resource for genealogists and interesting reading for the serious history buff. Much of our material, including our Civil War material, is unavailable or nearly impossible to find anywhere else. We also sell vintage histories and other books as we try to downsize our large library.
