An authoritative survey of banks and banking in Scotland, from the close of the seventeenth century up to 1883. Andrew William Kerr (1848-1934) was employed by the Bank of Scotland from 1864 until 1920. He was instrumental in establishing the Institute of Bankers in Scotland (the first of organisation of its kind in the world), serving as its first secretary from its foundation in 1875 until 1888.
