First published in 1886, this work was the combined effort of Sir Henry Yule and Arthur Coke Burnell, who collected instances of Anglo-Indian usages of English over a number of years. In Anglo-Indian English, the term 'Hobson-Jobson' refers to a festival or entertainment; it is a corruption, by British soldiers, of the chant "YÄ á ¤asan! YÄ á ¤osain!" during the Mourning of Muharram. In a half calf binding, with a ribbon marker. Externally, very smart, with just a little rubbing to the lower extremity of the front board. Gilt remains bright. Internally, firmly bound. Light marginal age toning to pages which are otherwise clean. Odd spot to the fore edge, not affecting the pages. Very Good Indeed.
