A scarce early nineteenth century five volume edition of Thomas Scott's annotated Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. The five volume 'New Edition' of influential English preacher Thomas Scott's edition of the Holy Bible, which began publication in weekly numbers, commencing in 1788.Consisting of volume I, Genesis to Samuel, 1814; volume II, Kings to Solomon's Song, 1814; volume III, Isaiah to Malachi, 1812; volume IV, Matthew to Acts, 1812, and volume V, Romans to Revelations, 1814.Scott's Bible, taking the text of the Authorized version, is accompanied by numerous 'explanatory notes, practical observations and copious marginal references'.By the time of Scott's death in 1821 nearly £200,000 worth of copies of his Bible had been sold in England and America. However Scott made only £1,000 profit from the work, having sold the copyright in around 1810. In full calf bindings. Significant rubbing to back strips and board perimeters, with minor losses to back strip heads and tails. Volume II rebacked, with original back strip laid down, but with significant losses. Each joint starting, with boards holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, with the odd spot throughout, most concentrated to first and last few leaves of each volume.
