Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Large format family Bible, measures 9 x 10.5 inches. Full leather binding, scuffed and worn, but text block is entirely tight. Maroon label on spine says Scott's Family Bible, and black label says Vol. II. This copy missing any blank pages that once came before the title page. Title page dated 1812. 5 inch vertical tear on the title page. Contains Kings through Psalms 139 (a few pages missing from the end). A few pencil notation and name on the inside back cover. Inside front cover has printed bookplate with the name 'Mrs. D. F. Ashby, Rose Bank. No.' with the number 240 written by hand, and 'Fauquier Co'. This is the bookplate of Dorothea Green Ashby, who was married to Turner Ashby Sr. They lived at Rose Bank, near Marshall VA (neighbors of John Marshall). Their son Turner Ashby Jr (born 1828, while this book was already in the house) served under Stonewall Jackson in the VA Cavalry in the Civil War (and died while doing so, in 1862). Some chipping leather, short crack in rear hinge. The family bible of a noted Confederate General - one which he certainly would have read - His father Turner Ashby Sr was Colonel in the War of 1812 and his grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War. In warmer months we stay open until 9 most nights, but you might want to call ahead. (540) 373-6148 Shipping rates are for Media Mail, in a padded envelope - WE DO NOT ADD TRACKING UNLESS THE CUSTOMER REQUESTS IT AND PAYS FOR IT - we have been selling books online for more than 20 years & find that the USPO delivers 99.99% of packages quickly and safely, without any need for a tracking number. We trust them & we hope you will too. If you need tracking, please consider PRIORITY SHIPPING. We ship orders valued at more than $50 in a box, at no additional charge. Priority mailing is for a Flat-Rate envelope, with tracking included. If the book does not fit into a flat rate envelope, we will likely need to request extra shipping costs from you, in order to put it in a box. We only charge the actual amount of shipping, so we hope you'll understand that it's just a matter of getting the book to you without taking a loss on it -- shipping is a service we happily offer without a 'handling' charge.... but we can't afford to charge you less than the cost of the stamps!…
