Light rubbing, some soiling and staining, hinges in upper and lower spine compartments just starting to show signs of creasing / cracking - nothing serious -and the binding remains strong and tight. Bindings by Andreas Linde are extremely uncommon, this is large, well preserved example.______________ Andreas Linde was one of the first German binders working in London, from around 1750, and seems only to have bound books for a short period. Consequently his output was not great. In spite of his short career he bound several books for George III which can be found in the kings library._______________ For bindings by Andreas Linde using some of the same tools see : BL Database of bookbindings 218d3 ; foliate tools and crest on central urn, BL " " " Davis 162 ; Cherubs and spine tooling, The Royal trust collection copy of : La Gerusalemme liberata / di Torquato Tasso con le figure di Giambatista Piazzetta. 1745 ; tools supporting cherubs, central urns & foliate tools.
