By Erasmus Warren, Printed for B. Aylmer, at the Three Pigeons, London, 1698, 338 pp plus contents, modern 3/4 leather calfskin and marbled paper-covered boards with raised bands and gilt embossing, 8 x 5 , 8vo. In good condition. Handsomely rebound with minor scuff marks to surface of leather. Minimal edge wear. End papers fresh and clean. Internally fair with rounded edges, slight chipping and fingersoiling throughout. Edges are toned with instances of light age staining. Bottom fore-edge have evidence of pest damage, likely silverfish. Worming in the rear signature at gutter, affecting text slightly. Free of known marginalia. Binding tight and intact. Please see photos. Quite scarce Christian theological work no other copies for sale at time of listing. Erasmus Warren (1650?-1718) was an English theologian and rector who was a more than a little perturbed by Burnet s cavalier treatment of the Mosaic writings. In responding to Burnet, Warren insisted that Genesis be taken literally… Warren maintained that God created the earth and its present form, and he defended the beauty of mountains against Burnet s diatribes. Getting into the scientific spirit, Warren even tried to show that there were mechanical problems with Burnet s hypothesis and that the earth could not possibly dry and crack in the manner he advocated.
