Royal blue pebbled cloth boards have bright gilt lettering on front, and bright gilt decoration on spine. Corners are worn through and spine ends are frayed. Cloth appears clean. Hinges are intact. The binding is shaken, but with no loose or loosening pages. The pages are bright, but have scattered foxing. There are plentiful black and white illustrations of varying sizes, from tiny to half page. There are 4 hand colored single sided plates plus the frontispiece in bright colors. A selection of stories and poems for children. Most are obscure, and some have surprising subject matter, much that today would be considered inappropriate for small children, but for the children of that time were just facts of life.
