Beschreibung
All three volumes in good condition. Boards show typical edge wear with areas of dryness along spine base, head and edges. Beautiful marbled end papers. Text blocks are toned, but legible. Unmarked. Previous owner s name stamped on front end papers (more below). Bindings are tight and intact. Please see photos. Our books were owned by William Watson Goodwin who was an American classical scholar, for many years Eliot professor of Greek at Harvard University. He was a tutor in Greek at Harvard in 1856-1860, and Eliot professor of Greek there from 1860 until his resignation in 1901. In 1882-1883 Goodwin was the first director of the American School for Classic Studies in Athens. As a teacher he did much to raise the tone of classical reading from that of a mechanical exercise to literary study. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers FORN-ABE-MSB-0920-Shelf-564-lh13
