Pretty and detailed gold gilt horseshoe, dog, and man with whip in hand training horse to stand on a block on frt board, gilt title to spine. Dark green 'pebbled' ruled cloth with floral patterned designs blindstamped in corner is a rebind. Original cloth cut and placed in appropriate spots on covers and backstrip. Rear hinge cracked and re-glued in the past. Spine cocked, cloth rubbed at tips, spine ends and board feet. 120 illustrations on 280 pages, no loose leaves. Book is an early rebind using original pine green and boards. No date, circa 1880. All there but not pretty. The Title continues. Together with an Elaborate and Scientific Essay on Horse-Shoeing; Also, the Ordinary Diseases of Horses and Dogs, and Their Treatment, with many Valuable Recipes. Minor wear to extremities and hinges just starting to crack; otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by portrait frontispiece and by text figures. A title largely devoted to the horse, including management, ageing, a long essay on shoeing (credited to George Fleming), how to teach horses tricks and a brief section on the management of dogs. The title is undated and without a publisher. Library hub records an edition from San Francisco c.1882 and from Melbourne c.1880 and Belfast (1895). This example appears to be the Melbourne edition.
