By Clarence Cook and printed in New York City by Scribner, Armstrong and Company. 1878, 336 pp, 10 x 8 , 8vo, hardcover decorative cloth binding. In fair condition, with rubbing and wear to boards and spine. Some splitting to hinges, primarily at the front of the book. Text block remains bound well with occasional minor wear. Tears to end pages and loss to corner of frontispiece tissue guard. Color frontispiece, with numerous small black-and-white illustrations throughout. Light marginalia, along with stampings from previous owner. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce version on essays and thoughts about Gilded Age home decoration and aesthetics by Clarence Cook (1828-1900), an American writer and art critic. Beautiful cover illustrations in gilt.
