The First UK printing published by Gollancz in 1935. The BOOK is in near FINE condition and appears unread.A little pushing to the lower spine tip and a small bookseller sticker to the rear pastedown, otherwise appears unread.Free from inscriptions, stamps and erasures. The fragile paper WRAPPER is complete and is in near FINE condition.Minor fading of colouring to the spine and edges which is far less than usually encountered.A hint of creasing to the upper spine and front cover in places. The red lettering on the front cover is very bright. The wrapper looks very attractive in the removable Brodart archival protector. Bowen's fifth novel. An early admirer of 'The House in Paris' was Virginia Woolf, a good friend of Bowen's.In a letter about the book,Woolf wrote,'I had the feeling that your world imposed itself on my world, while I read, which only happens when one is taken in hand by a work.' A.S. Byatt, in her introduction to the 1976 Penguin edition, stated she had been reading the novel since the age of ten.Bowen is generally acknowledged as an important twentieth-century English (and Anglo-Irish) writer.'The House in Paris' was written during a period of great activity (she published four novels and a short story collection in the 1930s,besides writing literary reviews), and received positive reviews.Early Bowen titles are very scarce to find in any condition. This is a superb copy and certainly the nicest copy we have ever encountered.
