This book outlines an emerging area of human factors starting from a systems psychology base, rather than classical ergonomics. Concerned about the development of a communication network that will eventually span the entire globe, the book concentrates on the definition, design and implementation of the electronic office system from the user's point of view, focussing on the design of software rather than the hardware. The authors accept the importance of the physical aspects of a system but emphasize that it is the psychological aspects of the user-interface that must be identified and researched. As we move towards an information society there is no doubt that the new technology will change our lives irreversibly. This book cannot provide a neat set of answers as to how the world will look in the years to come but it does identify the key issues.
