The first UK paperback edition of this chilling anti-war novel written by Wilhelm Lamszus, translated by Oakley Williams. First UK paperback edition. Published the same year as the US edition. First English translation, based on the German novel 'Das Menschenschlachthaus: Bilder von kommenden Krieg' (1912) by Wilhelm Lamszus. Translated by Oakley Williams. Dated using Jisc, from copies of the work held at the British Library. Wilhelm Lamszus was a German teacher and author who was known for his anti-war writings, such as this one. At the time of the Nazi regime in Germany, Lamszus was immediately dismissed from his teaching post due to the nature of his writings. This particular novel was written two years prior to the First World War, with the full name of the novel being 'The Human Slaughter-House (Scenes from the War That Is Sure to Come)', foreshadowing the coming events. The novel is told from the point of view of a pacifist who presents a horrific vision of the near future.Hutchinson's advertisements to the rear of the work. In the publisher's paperback binding. Externally, sound with slight rubbing an light edge wear. Small tears and chipping to the head and tail of the backstrip and to the rear board fore edge. Front hinge is tender with backstrip lifting.
