First published 1825. Very scarce in an original edition, especially Volume II. Compiled by those icons of architecture, John Britton (1771-1857) and Augustus Pugin (1762-1832). Packed with detailed ground plans, elevations and interiors. Descriptions include those of commercial and civic buildings but also palaces, private mansions and bridges. Blue, blind stamped cloth with gilt to spine. Wear to extremities esp. top of spine. Occasional light foxing o/w clean interior with no inscription. Binding generally sound but one chapter (pp 167-170 inc.) adrift. 15 x 24cms with 405+pp. A heavy book; postage for overseas customers will need to be adjusted. 8vo (24.6x15.2cm), half leather hardback, 401pp + index + adverts. Brown leather with brown cloth, raised bands to spine, gilt lettering to spine and upper edges. General wear, rubbed, scuff marks, bumped, leather quite worn at edges, cloth frayed at edges, hinges cracked. Age-toned, foxed edges, previous owner's stamp (St. Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne) at title page with blind-stamped details also. Some marks to margins, endpapers grubby and chipped at edges, a little soiled. With many b&w diagrams, some fold-out. Contents good, clear and legible. Pictures available on request.
