DESCRIPTION: Limited edition of 100 on Holland paper, this being copy 81. Initialed by the publisher, Alphonse Lemerre. Published 5 May 1896. 502 pages. in original paper wrappers. Table of content is in the back of the book. ----- CONDITION: This book is best described as a binding copy. All the pages are there, however the cover and leafs were trimmed in different sizes. As result the cover and several pages are 8.25 x 8 inches, others are 7.5 x 5 inches and 8.25 x 4.75 inches. It is printed on tan paper, with margins tanned darker due to age, not affecting text. Cover has chips and closed tears along the edges. Joints and hinges are weak or broken with several deep gutter cracks throughout, with one breaking the book spine in two parts at page 449. Spine's paper cover has large closed tear and small part is missing. Two tape marks have left their residue on the spine and the front cover, detaching the "I" in "Idylle". Some leafs are uncut at the top edge. Protected in acid free transparent cover. ----- ABOUT THIS TITLE: The book is also known by its subtitle, Moeurs Cosmopolites. The story takes place in the late 19th century bustling Paris, where passions and secrets intertwine. We encounter the two protagonists of this tragic idyll whose fateful encounter sets the stage for a love story that defies societal norms. Their passion ignites like a flame, consuming reason and caution. But fate, ever capricious, weaves tragedy into their idyllic moments. ----- ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Paul Charles Joseph Bourget (September 2, 1852 December 25, 1935) was a French poet, novelist, and critic. His literary contributions spanned various genres, and he left a significant mark on French literature during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
