Original offset lithograph/relief halftone. The size is One 0.5cm closed tear on the lower right side. Overall very good condition with clean edges. This poster depicts an illustration of maps showing Imperial Airways routes. It also includes an illustration of a G-AETX plane right above the key. The title is written in a bold font in the upper right hand side, with a paragraph of interesting facts about the type of map shown on the poster. The paragraph is as follows: Interesting facts about this type of map- The representation of the curved face of the earth on a flat surface was a problem to cartographers from the days when it was first understood that the Earth was a globe. In this map the artist has based his design on a photographic projection reminiscent of the 16th century Florentine cartographer, Waldseemueller. It was on Waldseemueller's map of 1507 that the Americas were first shown. The upper portion gives the whole world, and the lower four sections, with the detached segment, show how it is possible to make a flat reproduction of the spherical surface of the earth.
