Derby: Published by Thomas Richardson; Simpkin, Marshall, and Co., London. 1838. First edition. Octodecimo (5 1/2 x 4 1/4). [5], 6-98 pp. Hand colored engraved frontispiece of a fishing scene within borders of artificial flies. Woodcut title page vignette. Woodcut illustrations throughout the book. Author's Preface. Includes chapters on The Fishes' Petition - General Observations and Instructions - The Principal Angling Rivers of England, with the Fish Peculiar to Them - The Most Favourable Seasons for Angling - On Baits in General - Lines - Rods - Hooks - Artificial Fly Fishing - A Description of the Fishes (Salmon, Trout, Pike, Perch, Grayling, Ruffe, Carp, Tench, Bream, Barbel, Roach, Dace, Chub, Gudgeon, Bleak, Eel, Loach, Bullhead, and, finally, Stickleback) - The Angler's Progress. And a final chapter on Otters. Quite a scarce book, especially with the hand colored frontispiece. Westwood and Satchell describe the book without mention of the frontispiece - these two exemplars of angling bibliography would have described the frontis if it had been present - see p. 121. The book is bound in its original green decorated paper over boards with black titles, angling scene, and publisher's name. Light wear to the binding, small 19th century bookseller's ticket on the front paste down. A very good book. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 010353
