Incidents in the Life of John Edsall, Published for the Author, Catskill, 1831, 156 pp, full original leather, 7 x 4.5 , 12mo. In good condition. Light wear to extremities with minor scuffing to surface of leather. Corners lightly rubbed with minor instances abrasions to edges. Leather remains soft and rich in color. Spine slightly abraded. Gilt work remains bright. Interior typically age-toned with moderate foxing and age-stain. Consistent heavy dampness staining throughout, does not affect text. Binding remains solid and intact. A sturdy little book. Please see photos. Scarce. John Edsall (b. 1788-d. after 1850) was an illiterate American sailor who participated in several historically significant voyages and events. The book describes itself as an oral account set down with the assistance of an editor who signed the descriptive foreword as "J.D.P.".
