A typed copy of Ware's "The Indian War of 1864." This copy has a handful of grammatical corrections and the last two pages of the appendix have minor corrections. Brad-bound in a gray folder; content is on recto only. 190pp; 15pp. Previous owner has written "a gift from Charlie Osborne of Hastings, Nebraska 10-25-57" on verso of last leaf and created a handwritten title page. Folder has moderate creasing and tears around edges; about a quarter of the leaves have heavy toning. This copy seems to be the complete volume with appendices. "The Indian War of 1864" was first published in Topeka in 1911 and was illustrated. The volume contained "day-by-day occurrences in the campaigns around Forts Kearney and McPherson" (Howes). Eugene Ware was a Captain of Company F of the Seventh Iowa Cavalry and was able to provide this first-hand account of military campaigns against Native Americans in the West. Howes W-103.
