Superb early 20th century ( pre WW11) photograph album containing 200 images, approx size of photographs 100 x 75 mm, neatly titled on the mount. Contemporary green bevelled cloth. Many depict militay life whilst stationed in Central and Northern India, especially the Punjab, and the Northern Indian state of Himachal Predesh in the Himalayan foothills. Many are taken around the hill station of Dalhouse, established in 1854 as a summer retreat for the British troops and officials. It is located on the western edge of the Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas, 6000 to 9000 feet above sea level. Other places noted : Chiniot, Dhar, Dumera, Kot, and the suspension bridge at Chamba. As well as camp life, there are many photographs of native costumes, trades, and dancing bears, etc. many taken with the mountains in the background. There are several photographs taken at Dalhouse Fair which depict villagers who I would imagine from their costume have travelled from parts of North-West India, or other parts of Central Asia.
