Beschreibung
The illustrated 'Albion Edition' of this popular collection of fantastical short stories, in a smart full tree calf prize binding. An illustrated edition of this humorous anthology of myths, legends and historical tales, in a tree calf school prize binding. With a portrait frontispiece of the author, and featuring a number of full plate illustrations from artists including John Leech and George Cruikshank.A delightful collection of whimsical legends, myths, and ghost stories written supposedly by Thomas Ingoldsby of Tappington Manor, actually the pen-name of clergyman Richard Harris Barham. The legends were first printed in 1837 as a regular series in magazine 'Bentley's Miscellany', and due to their popularity were compiled and published in book form. Although based on real legends and mythology, they are deliberately humorous parodies of medieval folklore and poetry.Undated; dated 1894 via Jisc. In a full tree calf school prize binding, with gilt detailing. Small mark to centre of front board, with rubbing to joints. Front and rear hinges starting, with boards holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. The odd instance of light spotting throughout. Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 802F2
