In fair condition. Front board is becoming detached, still remains by a thread. Worn edges and bumped corners. Surface abrasions to covers. Front fly leaf detached, with marginalia and previous owner s names. Toned with considerable foxing throughout. Does not affect text. Binding shaken but intact. Fold-out plates toned and foxed, but in good, working order. Please see photos. Fourth American edition. Our book was owned by Reverend John Peate (1820-1903). Peate was a brick mason, minister and telescope builder. While pastor of the First church at Akron, Ohio, he was commissioned chaplain and joined the One hundred and Sixty-ninth Ohio regiment. The credit fell to him of officiating the first burial of the solider dead on Arlington Heights, above Washington, not the National cemetery. Our book was also owned by Dr. Gilbert Hazeltine, who wrote Town of Elliott which is an excellent reference for Jamestown history.
