This is an unrecorded poster in the form of a wall map. Restored, with modern linen and original rods. Varnish removed. Very minor loss from earlier cracking or chipping. Some areas are lightly discolored. Designated at the top left as Chart No. 1, though there is no indication of what subsequent charts in this series may have been. Many illustrations, printed in color, showing comparitive sizes of various measures. Across the bottom is a depiction of a meter/yard stick, with the width specifically measured to be one meter. A note indicates that stretching or contracting of the linen backing might affect that measurement. In one place, the metric system is termed Putnam's Metric System. Putnam, in the imprint line, is described as a member of the American Meterological Society. The piece was published by the American Metric Bureau. This piece was undoubtedly printed to follow up on the 1875 Convention of the Metre, a seventeen country (including the US) accord which established the groundwork for standardized units of measurement.
