Benedict Fitzgerald (b. 1881) wrote several histories on America, focusing on New York; according to the publisher "This book sheds a strange new light on the historic relations between Ireland and England." Hardly controversial, it treats the debt owed to Ireland in keeping western civilization extant after the fall of the Roman Empire. Despite having been reprinted several times (this is the Fourth), this is an uncommon book. This is a Fine copy of the Fourth Edition. Green cloth binding, ruled on the covers, with gilt lettering and a Celtic cross on the spine. Clean text; 363 pages, indexed. Previous-owner signature (1933) on the FFEP. The dustjacket is present (this is the only copy Quercus has seen in jacket) and is Very Good (Plus), with a tiny bit of edgewear and a 1/2" closed tear on the lower front cover.
