He was held in very high esteem both by the board of the University and his collegues and by the city counsel. His most important work (considered usefull till the present day), is a commentary on books 47 and 48 of the Digesta: his Commentarius de criminibus (1644 and many reprints). In 1639 Matthaeus published the first 15 disputations under the title De judiciis disputationes quindecim (Utrecht, Aegidius Roman) of which the present book is the second extended edition, adding two more disputations. A third edition appeared in Amsterdam with Joannes II Janssonius van Waesberge, 1665. In 1680 an edition was published with annotations by G.A. Struve. The Disputationes were dedicated to two of Matthaeus's best students, the famous Menso Alting (1617-1678) from Groningen and Arnold Straet. The dedication is dated Utrecht, 25 March 1639 (p. 5-9)" (Thanks to Forum Bv Antiquariaat). Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 008974
