Published on the occasion of an exhibition that showed from October 5-December 17, 1967 at the Asia House Gallery in New York and January 17-February 25, 1968 at the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A survey catalog featuring the arts of the Heian period in Japan. The Heian period lasted from 794-1185 CE. A variety of artworks in different media were represented in this show including painting, sculpture, and metalworking. Many of the artworks depicted herein are Buddhist works, but there are also examples of court art, the latter of which saw a flourishing in the Heian period. Authored by John Rosenfield.
