Beschreibung
A scarce first English edition of this biography of James Radburne set in Patagonia, presented in a clam shell box. Herbert Childs (1904-1971) was an American writer and magazine editor. He took his wife to Patagonia on a year-long honeymoon and this work is the result of that holiday, with James Radburne as the subject. Born in 1874 in Berkshire, Radbourne worked on a ranch in Tierra del Fuego and subsequently worked odd jobs around the Magellanes Territory before marrying a Tehuelche woman. He wrote to the Barretts asking them to pen his biography, and they put him in touch with Herbert Childs, who conversed with him over five months, with those conversations being the subject of this work. Childs also penned the novel 'Way of a Goucho'.In a clamshell box.Illustrated with twenty-five double tone illustrations. From the library of Eric Kenneth Prentice Back. Kenn Back was a British meteorologist with the British Antarctic survey for many years. He spent eight winters in the Antarctic and is a descendent of Captain George Back. In addition, he served as base commander at Halley, Faraday and Rothera stations. His library collection was built over decades and highlights his love of polar exploration. In a full cloth binding with a modern clamshell box. Externally fairly rubbed, some loss to the cloth from chipping at the head and tail of the spine. Clamshell box is in lovely condition. Internally, joints are strained but firm, pages a touch age toned but otherwise clean. Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 754R35
