Though Gourgaud was very fond of Napoleon his journals provide an unprejudiced and realistic view of him.Gourgaud was an important figure of the Napoleonic Wars, saving the Emperor's life during the 1814 Battle of Brienne, and fighting in the Battle of Waterloo.With a preface and notes by Octave Aubry. In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, generally smart, with tide marks to the backstrips and joitns. Small chip to the front wrap of Volume II. Torn label to the spine of Volume I. Wraps are a little age-toned with some light marks and spots. Hinges of Volume I are starting a little but remain firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned and clean. Good.
