Lo―TEK, término que deriva del inglés Traditional Ecological Knowledge (conocimiento ecológico tradicional), es un conjunto de conocimientos, prácticas y creencias multigeneracionales que contrarresta el prejuicio de que las innovaciones indígenas son primitivas y ajenas a la idea misma de tecnología. Es sofisticado y está diseñado para trabajar de forma sostenible con ecosistemas complejos.
Este libro, que incluye un prefacio del antropólogo Wade Davis y cuatro capítulos (Montañas, Bosques, Desiertos y Humedales), explora miles de años de sabiduría y de soluciones desarrolladas por la humanidad en 18 países, entre los que se incluyen Perú, Filipinas, Tanzania, Irán, Iraq, India e Indonesia. Redescubrimos una mitología antigua en un contexto contemporáneo, radicalizando así el espíritu de la naturaleza humana.

La diseñadora, activista, académica y escritora Julia Watson dirige el estudio de diseño que lleva su nombre, cuyo trabajo se articula en torno a la antropología, la ecología y la innovación, y colabora en Watson Salembier, un estudio de diseño urbano y paisajístico especializado en reconstrucción. Julia también da conferencias y asesora a empresas de la lista Fortune 500 para alinear su actividad con los objetivos de sostenibilidad global mediante el diseño e implementación de cambios sistémicos en sus respectivos sectores bajo los principios de sostenibilidad, innovación y futuro. Da clases de Diseño Urbano en Harvard y en la Universidad de Columbia.
