Beschreibung
A colourfully illustrated copy of Edward Lear's nonsense verses with illustrations by L. Leslie Brooke. An illustrated work in the original quarter cloth binding, with a colour plate to the front board. Illustrated with an illustrated title page, six colour plates and numerous black-and-white in-text illustrations. Collated, complete. Edward Lear (1812-1888) is best remembered for his literary nonsense poetry and prose, and especially his limericks. This work includes his poem 'The Jumblies' along with nine more of his nonsense verses, including 'The Owl and the Pussycat', 'The Courtship of the Yonghy-Bonghy-Bò' and 'Incidents in the Life of my Uncle Arly'. These poems are delightfully illustrated by L. Leslie Brooke (1862-1940), a leading children's illustrator whose work has adorned many nursery rhyme books, such as The Golden Goose Book and Andrew Lang's Nursery Rhyme Book. In the original quarter cloth binding. Externally generally smart, though there is loss of colour from the lettering to the front board. Small tears to the cloth to the head of the joints. Small loss to the upper left corner of the colour plate to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with the odd spot to the first and last couple of pages. Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 884M11
