The politically radical Georgian letters of 'Junius', the anonymous figure writing to the 'Public Advetiser'. Illustrated throughout. Complete in two volumes. An early edition of this work.A selection of the letters of Junius.'Junius' was an anonymous writer who wrote a series of letters for the 'Public Advertiser' from 1769 to 1772, in a series of sixty-nine letters. The letters were critical of the government of King George III, a riveting political commentary of the Georgian era. This edition contains 'Dedication to the English Nation', supporting republicanism and freedom of the press.Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page, and eleven plates.Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page, and eight plates.Sir Philip Francis is now generally considered to be 'Junius', though this is not universally agreed on.Prior owner's ink annotation to the verso to the front endpaper and recto to the front endpaper of Volume I.Volume I has the dedication misbound after the contents page. In the original half morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards, rebacked with new marbled boards laid on. Externally, generally smart. Minor rubbing to the boards and spines. A small amount of loss and bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean. Tidemark to the first few pages of Volume I, and to the plates of both volumes.
