Scarce in the 100 limitation, the Japanese vellum version as we have here is vanishingly scarce. Of course at one of five copies.Long narrative poem by Sir Richard Burton published under pseudonym Hâjî Abdû El-Yezdî. Translated and annotated by his friends and pupil "F. B".In a note to the reader, Burton claimed to be the translator of the poem after the original rare Persian manuscript, which never existed.A poem containing Sufi thought in the poetic idiom of that mystical tradition.Text printed to recto as called for.Sir Richard F. Burton was a British, well known British Arabist and explorer. His most successful achievements include a journey to Mecca in disguise when non-Muslims were forbidden access on a death penalty; a famous translation ofThe Arabian Night;and the publication of theKama Sutrain English. In the original publisher's duo cloth binding. Externally smart with shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine, front joint lightly cracked, boards holding firm.
