Brand New, Unread Copy in Perfect Condition. A+ Customer Service! Summary: Shady deals and forcible cryogenics keep the tension mounting in this hip new near-future novel from the Hugo Award-winning author of Tranquility Alternative and Orbital Decay. With its near-space setting, techno-adventure theme, and rock'n'roll style, it will appeal to both science fiction and mainstream readers. It Was One Hell of a Blackout. William Alec Tucker III was living the high life, spending Daddy's money on all the sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll a spoiled rich kid like himself can get his hands on. Then one little DUI-type miscalculation behind the wheel and BAM! He's knocked into the middle of the next century, literally.Waking up a hundred years later in a space colony owned by an extremely wealthy developer, Tucker suffers from total amnesia. As he fights for each shred of memory of his previous life, he stumbles upon a top-secret operation aimed at bringing more "deadheads" from the past century to the space colony. He may have been irresponsible and undisciplined in his lastlife, but he will need all the resourcefulness and courage he can muster to thwart the schemes afoot in this one. Inhaltsangabe: Welcome to Heaven. Here's a mop.

It's not that simple, of course. First you have to die. Grunge rock, bad acid, and an eighteen-wheeler will do that. Then you have to survive. Not too complicated, toward the century's end, for a neglected rich kid with guilt-ridden parents and cryogenics. Then there's the resurrection. That's more complex, involving runaway nanotechnology, a neutral interface in the brain, an asteroid named for Jerry Garcia, and a castle that needs cleaning. Hence, the mop.

Death for William Alec Tucker III is a gateway to the future, and a second chance to accomplish what he's left undone: which is just about everything. Life after death is almost pleasant. Until Alec finds out that he's a pawn in a systemwide struggle for power and embarks on an odyssey of discovery that takes him from the far reaches of the asteroid belt to the fleshpots of Clarke County, Space. And even father, to the beckoning stars.

Über den Autor: Allen Steele established himself as a popular and innovative SF writer with his first novel, Orbital Decay, which focused on the blue collar workers who built the first space station. HE has gone on the publish a number of additions to the "Near Space" near-future sequence, the latest of which is A King of Infinite Space, as well as completely independent stories such as The Tranquility Alternative and The Jericho Iteration. Steele has also published a number of well-received shorter works including "The Death of Captain Future," which won the Hugo Award and was a Nebula finalist.
