Seven volumes in the publisher's original cloth bindings, with decorative gilt to the front boards, and the original unclipped dust wrappers, from The Reader's Library Publishing Company Ltd. This company published a successful run of affordable reprints between 1927 and 1934, manufactured by the Greycaine Book Manufacturing Company. The British version of the series was notable for its enticing and brightly-coloured dust wrappers.Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was an English author who specialised in adventure fiction set in exotic locations, primarily Africa. He was a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. This set comprises of six of his novels, detailed below.King Solomon"s Mines, first published in 1885 by Cassell, is one of Haggard"s adventure novels from the Lost World genre, in which Allan Quatermain leads an expedition through Africa to find a missing person. This Copyright Edition was published in 1927. With a previous owner's label to the front paste down.She, first published in 1887 by Longmans, is one of Haggard"s most popular novels. It follows the journey of Horace Holly and his ward Leo Vincey to a lost kingdom in the African interior. This Copyright Edition was published c1927. A previous owner's stamp to the front paste down and front free end paper is dated "12 Aug 1926".Cleopatra, first published in 1889 by Longmans, is a historical fantasy novel set in the Ptolemaic era of Ancient Egypt. This Copyright Edition was published in 1927. With a previous owner's ink inscription to the front free end paper dated "Nov. 4. 1927". This volume has a duplicate dust wrapper.Beatrice, first published in 1890 by Longmans, is considered one of Haggard"s best books. This Copyright Edition was published in 1927.Allan Quatermain, first published in 1887 by Longmans, is the sequel to King Solomon"s Mines. This Copyright Edition was published in 1928.The Brethren, first published in 1904 by Cassell, set during the Third Crusade. This is the Copyright Edition 273, published in 1929, with a page of publisher's advertisements to the rear. With a previous owner's ink inscription to the title page.Allan Quatermain and The Brethren are dated through copies held at the British Library. King Solomon"s Mines, She, Cleopatra and Beatrice are dated through information from 'The Greycaine News', No. 1, 11th May 1927, page 7. In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with the original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, cloth is very smart, with only very light shelf wear to the extremities. A touch of fading to the head of the spine to She. The head of the backstrip is lifting to Beatrice. Gilt to spines of Beatrice, Allan Quatermain and The Brethren is a little faded, though gilt to front boards remains bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned but clean. Beatrice is lacking the front free end paper. Dust wrappers remain bright with chipping to the head and tail of the spines of the wraps. Dust wrapper to The Brethren is in two pieces. Small closed tear to the front flap of King Solomon's Mines. To the first dust wrapper to Cleopatra, there are small losses and chipping to the lower extremity of the front of the wrap, and a tape repair to the reverse. To the second dust wrapper to Cleopatra, there are losses to the tail of the spine and tape repairs to the reverse of the wrap. Significant tear to the spine of the wrap, with losses to the head and tail, to Beatrice. Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 894M4
