From the Foreword written by Tomoko Hirose, current steward of the collection: "The Kiyosato Museum of Contemporary Art was a private museum founded in 1990 by the four Ito brothers using their own personal funds. The second eldest, Shugo, resided in Kiyosato and served as the museum s curator, while the third son, Shingo, taught art at a junior high school in Toyko and was responsible for collecting artworks and directing exhibitions. The eldest, Osami, and the youngest, Katsuro, provided support in terms of personnel, funding, and administration… "The Ephemera Collection was the last of the Kiyosato Museum of Contemporary Art s collections to take form. Shingo started collecting inexpensive, readily available ephemera online when individual overseas imports were still uncommon…[The] ephemera collection includes many items that have become increasingly difficult to find. Shingo s collection is vast and cannot fit into a single volume. This book presents particularly interesting works from over 1000 items in the collection, which are only very loosely categorized, leaving specialized research and studies to professionals.
