Large crown octavo, original red cloth lettered in gilt on spine, front panel stamped in blind ("The Original Illustrated Edition"). 492 pp + [4] pp publisher's ads at rear. Frontispiece engraving and seven additional full-page plates, all by John Gilbert. Spine slightly tanned, a very good clean copy, the hinges nice and tight and unbroken. Originally published in 1848, THE LANCASHIRE WITCHES is based on the true story of the Pendle witches, who were executed in 1612 for witchcraft.
