Brand New, Unread Copy in Perfect Condition. A+ Customer Service! Summary: Now back in stock: A collection of fabulous photographs by the foremost Surrealist artists. Buchnummer des Verkäufers
Inhaltsangabe: Much has been written about Surrealist painting and sculpture, but most of the erotic, disorienting and exquisite Surrealist photographs of Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Andre Breton, Brassai, Salvador Dali, Andre Kertesz and Hans Bellmer have remained all but unknown - until now. Traditional criticism has viewed Surrealist photography as a pale imitiation of authentic Surrealist work. The assumption has been that photography, a realistic medium, is fundamentally incomptatible with a cause devoted to the wildly subjective, the world of dreams and the unconscious. As a consequence, Surrealist photography, a major body of 20-century art, has remained largely unexplored.

Buchbeschreibung The Corcoran Gallery of Art / Abbeville Press, Publishers, Washington D.C. / New York, 1985. Kartoniert. Buchzustand: Sehr gut. "One could say that L`Amour fou: Photography and Surrealism is a project devoted to a puzzle. What, we found ourselves asking, is photography doing at the heart of surrealism? Despite the seeming contradiction between the extravagant productions of the unconscious and the documentary deadpan of the camera, photography was again and again placed at urrealism´s visual center." ----------------- Erste Auflage / First edition; Illustrierter Kartoneinband / Illustrated paperback; 243 S.; 4° / 30 cm; Enthält zahlreiche schwarz/weiß Abbildungen / Contains many black and white reproductions; Werke von: Bellmer, Ubac, Man Ray, Brassai, Dali, Ernst, Hugnet, Rene Magritte, Leo Malet, Lee Miller, Roger Parry and Roland Penrose; Rücken leicht beschmutzt, Stehkante leicht berieben; Sehr guter Zustand / Very good condition. Buchbeschreibung Abbeville Press October 1985, 1985. Hardcover. Buchzustand: Used - Very Good. Much has been written about Surrealist painting and sculpture, but most of the erotic, disorienting, and exquisite Surrealist photographs of Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Andre Breton, Brassai, Salvador Dali, Andre Kertesz, and Hans Bellmer have remained all but unknown--until now. Traditional criticism has viewed Surrealist photography as a pale imitation of authentic Surrealist work. The assumption has been that photography, a 'realistic' medium, is fundamentally incompatible with a cause devoted to the wildly subjective, the world of dreams, and the unconscious. As a consequence, Surrealist photography, a major body of twentieth-century art, has remained largely unexplored. L' Amour fou is the first book to study the crucial role photography did in fact play in the Surrealist movement. It shows how photographers enlisted into the service of 'subjective' Surrealism their medium's very claim to 'objective' reality. Of greatest interest, of course, is the book's abundant reproductions of the fantastic and distorted photographic creations that must be acknowledged as an important part of the Surrealist oeuvre.
