Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Single pale blue leaf, folded. Written in neat ink script on first page only, docketed on last page. Toned along outer edge. Very Good. Signed, "H. Maxwell." Maxwell [1787-1873] was a prominent New York Whig lawyer and political figure. During the War of 1812 he was Assistant Judge Advocate General of the Army. He prosecuted Jacob Barker and shipbuilders who were convicted of attempting to defraud insurance companies. "There are now more than one hundred chests of papers in the records room, an undigested mass the whole of which must be examined before it can be confidently said that the assessments which you required are not included amongst them, they being of a date earlier than July 1800. "It is possible that amongst the old accounts furnished to the Treasury Department by the New York House, some memorial of the transaction alluded to may be found.".…
