Square 8vo. 402 pp. Title-page in red and black lettering. Rebound in handsome full burgundy grained morocco with raised bands to spine and gilt lettering. Superb inner dentelles around borders of both boards. Printed on thick lined paper, high quality stock. A really luxurious copy, with just a small area of rubbing to the front edge of front board near head of spine. The book's controversial assertions that the life of Jesus should be written like the life of any historic person, and that the Bible should come under the same critical scrutiny as other historical documents caused controversy, and enraged many Christians, when it first appeared in an English translation in 1863.
