Contemporary full grained brown leather boards with 5 raised bands ,gilt tooled compartments and titles, gilt and blind decoration to front and rear boards, gilt dentels, yellow made end papers, two colour sewn head and tail bands with markers, all edges gilt.220 x 145 mm approx. 8 Vols bound in 4 books with 40 steel engraved portraits. 1838. Vol I viii + 486 pp 2 Portraits, Vol II vi + 474 pp 9 Portraits, Vol III vi + 478 pp 9 portraits, Vol IV vi +458 pp 8 Portraits, Vol V vi +486 pp 6 portraits, Vol VI vi + 472 pp 2 Portraits, Vol VII vi + 472 pp 3 Portraits, Vol VIII vi + 472 1 Portrait. Good (Rubbing and scuffing to leather, no previous owner names or insc. moderate to heavy foxing to prelims. and rear leaves with occassional mild foxing to text block margins, the portraits which are on heavier paper stock have mild to moderate sporadic browning.
