43pp 8vo original printed wrappers. Heliotype frontis portrait of the author. Inscribed at head of title "With Auguste de Bourbon's compliments / to M. le Duc de la Rochefoucauld Bisaccia / 22nd June 1874"; loosely enclosed a one page manuscript note in de Bourbon's hand of the same date, the month in which the Duke formally moved the restoration of the monarchy in the National Assembly. Auguste de Bourbon's claim to be the son of Louis XVII, who he said secretly escaped from the tower during the French Revolution and grew up in England under the assumed name of Augustus Meves, was not finally disproved until dna tests were carried out in 2000.
