Book condition: fair, very scarce 1859 edition, subtitle continues: "embracing rules of etiquette; rules for the formation of good habits; and a great variety of medical recipes to is added one of the best systems of cookery ever published, the majority of the recipes are new and ought to be possessed by everyone", divided into two books: The Ladies' Companion and Family Physician and Ladies' Domestic Economy and Housekeeper's Guide, the brown cloth boards feature a shortened title in gilt on front with a stamped design around both perimeters, moderate scuffing to all corners with a bit more to top left front, moderate spotting to all surfaces, five chips off spine finish, bottom chip is 2.5" followed by 1" and .75" which are only partial, next chip is tiny, .5" chip at top exposes signatures, slight play to front hinge, light soiling to pastedowns and endpapers, one inch chip off ffep bottom outside right, fold crease to top right, moderate foxing throughout with large brown spots on pages 121-124 though all text quite legible, binding tight, 136 pages, 6 X 9.25 inches.
