Exceptionally nice copy in slightly dulled burgundy/ brown cloth & gold lettering on the spine. First printed in 1912. Frontispiece with tissue. ix, 291 p., [16] leaves of plates : ill., folded colored map, with a short interior marginal tear. Dust soiled edges, f.o name on ffep and light pencil marks on paste down. Alexander (1879-1957), was a journalist stationed in Egypt when the US joined the Great War. He was commissioned into military intellegence until injured. After the war he left the army and journalism continuing his adventurer career in earnest, traveling the world and writing some 20 books. His Imperialistic idealism is conveyed clearly, but his 'pages are full of sheer fascination as he tells of lands and peoples' as well. Good resource for African history. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall. Alexander Powell. The book explores the history of European colonialism in Africa, from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.
